Lilliput – Exhibition at the New York High Line

Thema: Public Art at the New York High Line.
Beschreibung: Presented by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art commissions and produces public art projects that take place on and around the High Line. Founded in 2009, High Line Art has been showcasing a wide array of artworks including site-specific commissions, exhibitions, performances, video programs and a series of billboard interventions. High Line Art invites artists to think of creative ways to engage with the uniqueness of the architecture and design of the High Line and to foster a productive dialogue with the surrounding neighborhood and urban landscape.
April 2012 – April 2013
Lilliput is the first group exhibition at the High Line. Inspired by Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, the exhibition brings together nine sculptures of reduced scale by six international artists. Reflecting on the traditional role of public art, these newly-commissioned artworks offer a counterbalance to the monumental sculptures often found in public spaces. The Lilliput artworks are installed along the High Line in unusual and unexpected locations – amidst the vegetation and along the pathway – to evoke a magical world populated by fairy tale creatures, mysterious idols, and dreamlike landscapes.
